„Promoting European Union’s Cyber Education – PEU-C-E”
620741-EPP-1-2020-1-GE-EPPJMO-PROJECT
Official website of the project: www.peu-c-e.com
PEU-C-E – Promoting European Union’s Cyber Education is a joint Jean Monnet project developed by Business and Technology University and Caucasus University in Georgia which are the only universities concentrating on cybersecurity while also closely aligning with European Union’s values. The aim of the project is to share European experience in cyber education among students, teachers, parents, professors and decision makers with a goal to create safer internet for vulnerable young people.
As a dissemination project, “Promoting European Union’s Cyber Education (PEU-C-E)” has been designed as a strongly integrated combination of different paths for debating and disseminating some of the main issues raised by Cyber Education, on the one hand, and the role of the European dimension in tackling the issues caused by it, on the other. This action aims to increase awareness of the risks faced when being online and to support capacity building of educators in online safety. Three initiatives are foreseen with specific activities involved:
- A Georgia wide awareness-raising campaign on cyber culture, which will promote online safety, media literacy and ‘cyber hygiene’ for children, parents, teachers, professors and decision makers in schools and universities;
- A blended course (online and face-to-face) for teachers on cyber education and pedagogical approaches to teaching cyber education in primary and secondary education, as well as for the university professors and decision makers to ensure cyber safety in academia;
- Diversity of dissemination activities and PR strategies to reach a wide number of targeted groups through project website, BTU and CU website, social and traditional media channels partnered with both universities as well as forums, competitions and workshop events. Such streamlined and diversified strategies will ensure that a high number of communities will have access to EU cyber education experience, its achievements and will also be able to adopt new skills for safer internet use.
Wider goal: the goal of the project is to educate primary & secondary school children as well as university students, teachers, professors as well as decision makers in schools and universities regarding the European Union’s experience on threats of cyber space for kids and improve the level of competencies of schools and HEI in ensuring safer internet for children; The educators, in turn, will share their knowledge and skills with colleagues, and thereby contribute to a more inclusive and higher quality education in cybersecurity.
Specific Objectives: the project aims to achieve more responsible cybersecurity and data protection education aligned with EU directives and experiences through:
- Developing workshop curricula for the cybersecurity event for educating teachers and HEI as well as school leaders utilizing European Union’s experience;
- Developing event material, leaflets for kids to equip them with internet hygiene skills;
- Subsequent adaptation of these material in schools and universities as part of mandatory workshop events;
- Subsequent adaptation of these curricula and courses to the respective local contexts and their unique patterns of diversity;
- Development of multilingual online educational resources in order to make material available to everyone, especially to the most vulnerable groups further away from the center;
- Raising awareness of all stakeholders to force streamlining processes to the European Union’s experience through the conference.
Activities
With an aim to ensure that the target audience of the project is well responded while all the specific objectives and wider goal of the project are fulfilled, we have prepared well-balanced, diverse set of activities as following:
- Develop MOOCs material (including webinars for beneficiaries in the regions);
- Develop and Print Leaflets & Guidelines to ensure that significant topics on online safety, media literacy and ‘cyber hygiene’ for children, parents/carers and teachers based on EU agenda for digital safety to increase awareness of the risks faced when being online and to support capacity building of educators in online safety;
- Join international campaign #SaferInternet day through campaign event as institutions and encourage partners to join as well;
- Create project website to disseminate information about activities as well as information regarding cyber education;
- Plan and Execute cybersecurity workshops for Children (schools, HEI) on how to be safe in cyber space and how to protect data (6 universities, 4 in Tbilisi and 2 in regions and 10 schools in total, 6 in Tbilisi and 4 in the regions);
- Plan and Execute Workshop for Educators (3 workshops for educators in total) and Workshops for General Public (3 workshops for general public in total);
- Implement Competition: University students partnered with pupils in groups will make a product (visual art, theatre performance, for instance) able to represent their way to conceive cyber threats and possible solutions. Through a direct involvement, they will also be acquainted with EU law, policies actions and initiative concerning cybersecurity;
- Plan and Execute 1 Day Forum, to enhance once again awareness regarding the EU policies regarding cybersecurity and data protection among different stakeholders.
