Project activity 1: Exploring Data through Visualizations
Creating a Bar Chart Using Google Sheets
In this project activity, you will learn how to create a bar chart using Google Sheets, an online spreadsheet tool. Data visualization is an essential skill for effectively presenting information, and creating a bar chart is a great way to visually represent data.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Set up Google Sheets:
– Open your web browser and go to the Google Sheets website.
– Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have one, you can create a new account for free.
- Understand the Dataset:
– We will work with a sample dataset called “Monthly Sales Revenue.”
– The dataset has two columns: Column A contains the months, and Column B contains the sales revenue for each month.
- Enter the Data:
– Create a new Google Sheets document.
– Enter the months in Column A and the corresponding sales revenue in Column B.
- Create the Bar Chart:
– Select the data range by clicking and dragging from the first cell to the last cell.
– Go to the “Insert” menu and choose “Chart” from the dropdown.
– In the sidebar that appears, select a bar chart style such as “Column chart” or “Bar chart.”
- Customize the Chart:
– Use the sidebar options to customize the chart’s appearance.
– Add labels to the x-axis (months) and y-axis (sales revenue) to provide clarity.
– Experiment with different formatting options, like colors and fonts, to make your chart visually appealing.
- Review and Share:
– Take a moment to review your chart and make any necessary adjustments.
– Save your Google Sheets document or share it with others using the provided link.
