The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of the most prestigious annual scientific competitions in the world for school students. The Olympiad is intended for exceptionally talented young people and gives them the opportunity to develop and refine their skills in algorithm design, data structures, problem analysis, and programming.
The main goal of the International Olympiad in Informatics is to identify, encourage, and recognize young people with exceptional talent in the field of informatics, as well as to popularize informatics as a discipline among young people. The Olympiad plays an important role in developing participants’ academic and practical skills and represents one of the most important platforms for gaining international experience.
The Georgian National Team’s participation in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is primarily supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. The program is administered by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.
Georgia's National Informatics Team Returns Home with Medals from IOI 2026
Georgia’s National Informatics Team delivered an outstanding performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026), held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 9–16 August, winning one silver medal, one bronze medal, and two honorable mentions.

All four team members are students of Vladimir Komarov Tbilisi Public Physics and Mathematics School No. 199 and Mziuri Information Technology Center. The team was led by Professor Giorgi Mandaria, Bakar Gamezardashvili, and Tarash Dolaberidze.
The national team’s preparation was supported by the Georgian Tech Olympiads Hub, established on the initiative of the Business and Technology University (BTU) with the support of TBC. As part of their preparation for the world finals, the team participated in intensive winter and summer training camps. The final training stage took place from 1–7 August at the Business and Technology University within the Georgian Tech Olympiads Hub, where students worked on algorithmic problems and practical tasks designed to simulate the Olympiad format.
The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is one of the five international academic Olympiads recognized as a national priority by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. Georgia has participated in the IOI since 1996. The national team is selected through the National Informatics Olympiad and additional qualification rounds.

The selection Olympiad is organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, together with the team leaders. The Tech Olympiads Hub provides winter and summer camps for participants of the previous Olympiad and for the next selected participants.

To participate, registration is required. The registration form will be published on BTU’s website and social media channels.
Registration period: March 1–15
What types of tests are included in the Olympiad?
At the Olympiad, participants are given complex algorithmic problems designed for large amounts of data and requiring the identification of an optimal solution.
The participant must: devise an appropriate optimal algorithm for solving the problem and implement it programmatically.
