Within the framework of the Tech Olympiads Hub, the Georgian national team won a bronze medal.
Within the framework of the Georgian Tech Olympiads Hub, Georgia’s national team participated for the first time in the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics, EGOI 2026. Team member Gvantsa Khvedelidze won a bronze medal, while Tako Shanava was awarded an honorable mention.
This year’s Olympiad was held in Cesenatico, Italy, with more than 50 European countries participating. Georgia’s girls’ team was represented at the Olympiad by a four-member team, led by Giorgi Mandaria. This year, up to 250 participants competed in the international EGOI championship, among whom a member of the Georgian national team won a bronze medal.
Gvantsa Khvedelidze is a 12th-grade student at Vladimir Komarov Tbilisi Physics and Mathematics Public School No. 199 and the Information Technology Center “Mziuri.” She is actively involved in international informatics Olympiads and has been representing Georgia’s girls’ national team for five years. During this period, she has won 3 bronze medals and 1 honorable mention. Her international achievements include:
Info(1)Cup – bronze medal
Ukrainian Junior and Girls’ Olympiads in Informatics – gold medal in the girls’ category
ICPC Algo Queen 2025 – first place in the school-age category
According to her, her interest in informatics began within her family, especially through the example of her older brother, Davit Khvedelidze, who is also the co-leader of Georgia’s national team at EGOI 2026.
“I am participating in the EGOI Olympiad for the fifth time, and each time, being here is a very important experience for me. Of course, I expected a better result, although I am still satisfied with the experience gained and the result achieved. Competitions like this give us the opportunity to see our strengths, become more confident, and analyze our abilities,” Khvedelidze notes. For her, the preparation process for Olympiads is constant work and self-development: daily practice, improving weak areas, and training under real Olympiad conditions are her main approaches.
Georgia’s national team is competing in this Olympiad for the sixth time this year. Over the years, Georgia has achieved significant results: 2 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Tako Shanava, recipient of an honorable mention at EGOI 2026 and member of Georgia’s national team:
“EGOI is a competition where representatives of different countries share experiences with one another and learn from each other. Although I wanted to achieve a better result, this experience turned out to be very important for me. The Olympiad gave me even more motivation to prepare more intensively in the future and achieve better results at international technological Olympiads.”
The European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) aims to strengthen girls’ involvement in the fields of informatics and technology. The Olympiad promotes gender equality in STEM fields and annually brings together young participants from Europe and other regions, so that they can share knowledge and experience in computer science and problem-solving.
The Georgian Tech Olympiads Hub ensures the formation of national teams for international Olympiads, their training, and their participation in international Olympiads such as EGOI, EJOI, IOI, and IOAI.
The Georgian Tech Olympiads Hub was established at BTU with the general support of TBC Bank. The goal of the Hub is to organize national championships, select talented students, and prepare them for the international arena. The platform ensures the formation, training, and support of national teams for European, global, and Georgian informatics Olympiads, so that Georgia is represented with dignity in the technology field and achieves the best results.
The project partners are: UN Women, the Georgian Artificial Intelligence Association, ICT Association, EPAM, Lineate, and the development company Bloxy.
