MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology publishes an article written at BTU titled “Inclusive Innovation Across Borders: Designing Ecosystems for Disability Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Funding.”
The article explores how inclusive innovation ecosystems can be built to strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in creative processes and entrepreneurship. Drawing on research conducted in Georgia and Japan, the author argues that inclusion should be viewed as a core strategy for innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. Based on field research in Okinawa and collaboration with the Business and Technology University (BTU) and the Kyoto Institute of Technology, the article shows how disability-led innovations can generate new business models, ethical design practices, and cross-sector impact. Ultimately, it presents inclusive innovation as a transformative pathway for shaping sustainable, future-oriented entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Article author: Ani Vashakmadze — Associate Professor at BTU and Research Scholar at the Kyoto Institute of Technology; Visiting Speaker at Harvard University.
